We Haven't Killed Them Yet...

What a horrible thing to say!! But I'm really still quite impressed that 1) we decided to adopt some ducks and 2) they've made it through the first week!

They are growing quickly & loosing most of their duck down, but they still have their 'peepy' voices & are still a bit nervous around us.

I think this relationship is going to take us places we never thought we'd go....

We like to give them treats - I think they are going to be very spoilt ducks...

Today it was some fresh caught raw salmon chopped into very small pieces & mixed in with some water. The 2 'yellow bills' (no names yet) noticed the dish (which I'm trying to train the ducks & the hubby to use) & made a bee-line for it.

Before 'special' duck (the pale billed one that is rather 'slow') could take more than 2 steps, the other 2 had that dish emptied!! nom-nom-nom!!

Then they noticed the 2nd dish....zoooooom!!!! nom-nom-nom!!

Yup - they ate all that too before 'special' duck even noticed there were treats in small bowls... Poor duck...

If ducks could blow bubbles in the water, I'm sure this one would have been doing exactly that...

They are starting to get used to our morning routine. We make coffee & bring it out to the enclosure. We freshen their drinking water, open the door to their house & wait for them to emerge. They usually make a bee-line for the water & spend about 5 minutes drinking. Then they get their morning treat. Evenings are usually similar - but we don't give them treats to entice them back into their house - they take forever in the evenings to eat extra food!!

I can't wait for them to get bigger & more accustomed to us & their new home - I really want to let them run around the yard eating bugs & digging through the grass. Another few weeks is all I hope it will take!
