Bears in the Bushes, Berries on the Vine

~ blueberries ~
The following pictures are from last week, which shows that I have been thinking of my berries for a while now.

In the last couple of days, there has been noticeable activity from our local population of black bear - just this morning there was one up in the bushes on the other side of the fence. Bears just being bears, eating bear food - as long as people are aware & don't 'sneak' up on them, all should be fine. Just leave yourself an exit & better yet - leave the bear an exit.

This year might be a great year for berries - my blueberries are finally recovering from years of deer grazing & are loaded with fruit. Hopefully I can keep up with the birds!

Only a Week Ago...

~ basket of gold ~
Was it only a week ago that I had time to take these pictures?

Time IN the garden moves slowly - it's when you are desperate to GET INTO the garden that times flies by!! At least I had my camera with me last week during my therapy session...

~ Siberian iris ~
My clump of purple iris - which has needed to be divided now for about 3 years... is now finished blooming. But I got to spend time with them.

~ bearded iris ~
My favourite bearded iris has also finished blooming, but I found blooms in spots they weren't blooming in before - it's hard to keep track of where you put which variety of bearded iris as they all look the same when being moved!

~ foxgloves & wolf's bane ~
The wolf's bane are lush this year & also need to be divided. Love that they contrast in colour & in in texture with the foxgloves around them. Also glad that they stand up on their own - a rule in my gardens.

Why is it I never realize in the spring when things are small & easily moved, that they need to be divided?? The wolf's bane are taking over the bed - well, with strong competition from the spirea, astilbe, lavender & forget-me-nots...

Looks like garden overhauls are on the horizon!

But at least I got to spend time with them - last week....

Catching up on Some Blooms

June is a great month in the gardens - things are in bloom & buzzing with insects.

A couple of my favourites are my mini lilies.

I've got a group of oranges....
And another group of red with orange throats...

Stunningly warm colours which are nice to find when most of the flowers are in pinks & purples right now.

We Haven't Killed Them Yet...

What a horrible thing to say!! But I'm really still quite impressed that 1) we decided to adopt some ducks and 2) they've made it through the first week!

They are growing quickly & loosing most of their duck down, but they still have their 'peepy' voices & are still a bit nervous around us.

I think this relationship is going to take us places we never thought we'd go....

We've Adopted....

~ 1 week old ducks ~
At the beginning of April when a friend & I attended at Seedy Saturday event in the next town, we also stopped at a farm to pick up a dozen duck eggs.

On May 6th, my friend hatched the eggs in her indoor incubator & one of her chickens became their mother. There were 7 of the little ducks.
